Prior to joining Insight, PJ spent over 20 years in software engineering with bluechip companies across the globe in areas such as telecommunications, security and web based applications.
He holds a BSc in Applied Computing, a Dip. in Electronic Eng and a Nat. Cert. Ind. Computing from Waterford Institute of Technology.
Publications and presentations include “Historical Data Preservation and Interpretation Pipeline for Irish Civil Registration Records”.
Conor is a Research Associate at Insight Centre for the unit of Applied Innovation since September 2011. Conor is a Computer Science graduate from Queen’s University Belfast.
Project’s completed include “Participate” – The Participate project is an innovative approach to the problem of social anxiety and student participation. In an attempt to develop scalable online solutions to this widespread problem.
Vinod Hegde is researcher and project manager of DAATIC – an Enterprise Ireland funded research commercialization project. He has worked in companies such as Intel Labs (Leixlip, Ireland), Nokia Research Center (Helsinki, Finland) on research commercialization projects.
He has published in premier computer science conferences. Vinod has also taught advanced statistics and computer science courses to undergraduate students in Ireland and India. He has recently defended his PhD thesis successfully. He is an active participant in events conducted by communities such as Startup Galway, Intertrade Ireland, NDRC among others.
Carlos started working as an Intern in DERI in June 2013 before becoming a research assistant in September 2013 following DERI transition over into Insight.
He has since been employed as a research associate in the applied innovations department, commercialising research and working on contracted projects.
PhD student at Insight Centre for Data Analytics based at National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG). Bianca’s research topic is Entity Linking. Previously, Bianca has obtained her MSc in Informatics in 2012 from Federal University of Rio de Janeiro at the Knowledge Engineering Group with the work “Named Entity Resolution using Linked Data Resources”.
In this thesis she demonstrated the feasibility of building an approach for Entity Resolution from text using generic Linked Data data sets as Knowledge Bases. Bianca has completed many publications, presentations and workshops.
Caoilfhionn has been an applied research software engineer since May 2011. Caoilfhionn worked on the “IRIS: English-Irish Machine Translation System” publication which took place in Slovenia in 2016.
Caoilfhionn is also a very experienced software engineer.
Darren is currently going into third year of Business Information Systems in NUIG. He began working as an intern in Insight in June 2016 after returning from a semester abroad in the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
Darren helped design a web application for the Abbey Theatre, The app shows D3 visualisations of the data which shows the different positions in The Abbey Theatre and how many men/women occupied them positions over the years. It was created for The abbey Theatre group #WakingTheFeminists.
